2012 Atlantic Hurricane Season seen by SMOS

In the frame of the SMOS+STORM Evolution project we are processing SMOS data to systematically generate wind speed products intercepting TC and ETC over the mission timelife: 2010-now. We are building-up a dedicated SMOS-Storm catalog (STORM-DB) with a storm user interface which will provide the dataset in netcdf format, classified per year, basin, storm names and together with additional datasets made available on this dedicated web site and ftp servers.

The below animation is showing SMOS retrieved wind speeds along all Tropical cyclones reported in the North Atlantic in 2012. The storm tracks were obtained from the International Best Track Archive for Climate Stewardship (IBTrACS) database of NOAA. Click on the image to see a full screen view.
